At one point or another I am pretty sure everyone has wanted their iPhone to be able to communicate with them. For those who are lucky enough to have the iPhone 4S, Apple’s Siri voice assistant probably has you covered in the human to device communications department, but for the rest of us; Cydia has come up trumps again with the Text2Speech app. Text2Speech has been around on Cydia for a while, but is one of those nice little apps that manages to raise a smile on our faces every time we use it. 
The title of the app pretty much sums up its functionality. After downloading, users are invited to enter a text string into the supplied text field at the top of the main screen. When finished, the app simply converts the entered text into speech and reads it out loud. Being able to make a device read about some written words is hardly a new thing, so we don’t expect you to be blown away by this, but it is kind of cool to play around with on the iPhone.

Everyone loves a bit of privacy every now and then, and let’s face it, I am pretty sure that everyone has given their cell phone number out to someone that they later regretted giving it to for one reason or another. You would expect, that in this advanced day and age when smartphones play such an increasingly important and prominent role in our everyday lives, we would have a native filtering option on the device, or at very least our networks would be able to provide such a service.
Unfortunately the networks don’t have such a service and our smartphones can’t block incoming calls or messages for us, so that is where the likes of SMSNinja come in if you are fortunate enough to have a jailbroken iPhone but need to block people from contacting it. The app aims to be a highly effective firewall that allows the user to filter, block and hide things like incoming texts and media messages as well as phone calls. The Android versus iOS debate will never end. The two operating
systems have their die hard fans who will argue until they are blue in
the face about why their chosen OS is better than its rivals. No matter
which side of the fence you sit on, I’m sure any reasonable person can
concede that each operating system has its plus points.
Some users believed that one of the more admirable features of the
Android operating system was the ability to be able to set live
wallpapers on the devices home screen, allowing a higher level of device
customization. For those that have no idea what a live wallpaper is, it
is the ability to set an animated image behind the application icons to
provide a flashy, video type effect.
Up until iOS release 2.X, iOS devices didn’t have this ability, and
had to rely on having static images set as a wallpaper. As usual in
these circumstances the jailbreak development community stepped up to
the plate with a developer known as ‘skrew’ producing the initial
version of a complex tweak called vWallpaper which as the name suggests allows custom created videos to be used as a dynamic wallpaper.

If you’ve been keeping a close eye to the news over the last few
days, you’re probably aware of JailbreakMe 3.0, a simple untethered
jailbreak that takes advantage of a PDF exploit in Mobile Safari. The
wizards in the jailbreak community have engineered a fix that manages to
preserve the jailbreak, at the same time as it stops unsuspecting users
from launching a harmful PDF and having their devices taken over.
This tweak is simple to apply and requires nothing more than an
Internet connection. Just launch Cydia, search for "PDF Patcher 2″ and
install the first (and, as of the time of this writing, only) result.
The only thing you’ll need is a jailbroken iOS 4.3.3 device.
JailbreakMe 3.0 was first unintentionally leaked over the weekend and
has since taken the jailbreaking community by storm, since it’s the
first untethered jailbreaking solution for the iPad 2, although it also
works with any iPod touch or iPhone. Unlike other tethered solutions,
JailbreakMe doesn’t require the device to be plugged in, in order to be
booted into a jailbroken state. The official version was then released
to the public a few hours ago.

According to a report, Apple has ordered as many as 15 million iPhone
5’s from Pegatron, a well-known computer manufacturing contractor. The
new iPhones are expected to start shipping in September 2011, which is
in line with previous reports.
Pegatron is reportedly aggressively hiring at its Shanghai, China
plants to make room for manufacturing for Apple, which has recently
contracted Pegatron to assemble CDMA-based iPhones (mainly for use
within the Verizon network in the US).
Due to its cooperation with Apple for iPhone 4, Pegatron,
in 2010, significantly expanded its plants, human power and equipment
aiming satisfy the orders for 10 million CDMA iPhone 4s; however, since
the Apple’s CDMA iPhone 4 sales were lower than expected in the first
quarter of 2011, Pegatron shipped less than four million CDMA iPhone 4s,
causing the company’s utilization rate to drop to only 50% with its
gross margin also drop to 1.8% in the quarter.
According to the source, and in line with previous reports, the
next-generation iPhone isn’t expected to include any major design
changes, instead focusing on improving the hardware. If previous reports
are to be believed, the iPhone 5 will sport a faster dual-A5 processor,
as opposed to the single-core A4 currently built into the iPhone 4, and
an 8-megapixel camera, instead of the 5-megapixel one found on the
current iPhone.
